SEHBC takes Trial Eights 2024

For the last few years, we have been beyond proud that multiple SEHBC athletes have taken the step to trial for the University Squads with the goal of competing in the infamous Oxford-Cambridge Boat Race. This year has been no different, with 5 SEHBC athletes taking to the tideway to represent OUBC for this year’s Trial Eights. These races are a crucial marker in the Boat Race season, both as a halfway point in the season and for crew selection.

In the Women’s “A” races, Erika Dutton sat in the 2 seat of the “Moto Moto” crew. She demonstrated immense grit throughout the 6.8k race, propelling her crew to an easy victory . In the “B” races, Verity Black and Sabi Sulikova (cox and bow seat, respectively) were part of the only all-lightweight line up representing the Women’s Squad that day. They hit some biblical conditions around the Surrey bend, but managed to maintain their cool and close on the other crew despite this.

Sabi Sulikova (current Women’s Co-Captain) and Verity Black in the Women’s Lightweight Eight.

In the Men’s “A” race, Will Randell sat in the 3-seat of the “Wallace” boat and demonstrated that, despite picking up rowing last year at SEHBC, training hard and being consistent can yield incredible results. Seb Harker raced in the 6-seat of the Lightweight Men’s Eight, who competed against Latymer Upper School in a strong set of fixture pieces across the Championship Course.

We are incredibly proud of all our athletes who are trialling with the university this year, with the majority having learnt to row at SEHBC. We wish them the absolute best of luck with the rest of the season, and are excited to see them trade dark blue for maroon and gold come Summer Eights!
