SEHBC Michaelmas 2024 Report
SEHBC made a fantastic start to the rowing season, with spirits as high as the water levels!
During Fresher’s week, the trnout to the Boathouse for our annual BBQ and taster session was great! A huge number of new members from both the JCR and MCR demonstrated significant promise on the ergs and despite the red flag preventing any actual water time, we were incredibly lucky to welcome many new members to the SEHBC family.
First years chatting with Felix Clayton McClure in the red splash jacket, Cyril Schroeder with the yellow roll-top bag, and with Will Randell and Cat Dillman next to the barbeque.
Throughout the term, the weather did not decide to fall in our favour, but that didn’t stop training. Both the men’s and women’s side were relentless with training with many group ergs, tank sessions and S+C circuits. Our returners made big aerobic gains, getting in the winter miles, while our novices began the crucial preparation for the Michaelmas Novice Regatta.
One of the first Women’s Side novice outings in early Michaelmas.
Sadly, our novices didn’t manage to demonstrate their hardwork officially due to cancellation of the Novice Regatta due to the high flow rate. However, this did not stop us celebrating the many steps the whole club has made this year. We took to Piere Victoire for our termly Boat Club Dinner this year, and celebrated all that we’ve gained so far this season.

Thank you to our alumni for their continued support, enabling us to employ some of the best coaches in Oxford for this new season. If you’re not already donating to the Friends of SEHBC, you can sign up in the top right of this page.
We now look forward to next term, which will hopefully bring less rain, a slower river and many bumps!
